Medium Format
While I mostly shoot digitally, medium format film photography still gives me the most aesthetic pleasure, particularly shooting black and white. My Mamiya 645 Pro is a heavy beast, but then the whole process of shooting film is “inconvenient.” I mostly photograph natural and urban landscapes, and I thoroughly enjoy the process of pre-visualizing my images. In some cases I have my black and white negatives cross-processed as transparencies (dr5.us in Iowa does a terrific job). This creates additional constraints—limited exposure range, in-camera composition—that make analog photography feel like a true craft.
